ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026: Where Regional Football Passion Meets Global Partnership

Published on

This summer, as global attention shifted toward the FIFA World Cup 2026™, another major football story will unfold across Southeast Asia. The ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026, celebrating its 30th anniversary, returns as the region’s premier national team competition, bringing together ASEAN’s 11 nations to compete for one of football’s most coveted regional titles.

But beyond the match action, the tournament represents something bigger: a powerful example of how sport, partnership and strategic vision combine to drive meaningful impact across markets, communities and brands.

A Regional Icon

Since its inception in 1996, the ASEAN Championship has grown into the 'jewel in the crown' of ASEAN football. Now entering its 16th edition, the competition continues to unite a diverse region of more than 700 million people through their shared passion for the game.

The 2024 event underlined this momentum, delivering a record-breaking audience of 541.5 million and 12.66 billion social media views, figures that position the competition among the most valuable regional football properties globally.

As Vietnam look to defend their title following a dramatic 5-3 aggregate victory over Thailand, the 2026 edition promises both sporting excellence and unparalleled fan engagement across the region where football is the number one sport.

A Landmark Edition

With anticipation building across the region, the Official Draw for the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026, held in Jakarta, offered the first glimpse of what promises to be a highly competitive anniversary edition.

Reigning champions Vietnam headline Group A, where they will face four-time champions Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia and Timor-Leste. Meanwhile, Group B sees record seven-time champions Thailand drawn alongside Malaysia who claimed the title once in 2010, the Philippines, Myanmar and Laos.

The structure reinforces the tournament’s competitive depth, with traditional powerhouses, emerging challengers and historic rivalries all colliding from the group stage onwards.

From a SPORTFIVE perspective, moments such as the Official Draw represent more than a tournament milestone. They are critical storytelling, fan engagement and partner activation moments, building momentum across media and domestic markets well ahead of kick-off.

The ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ is far more than a tournament, it is a strategic platform that connects brands with one of the most passionate and fastest-growing football audiences in the world. ASEAN United FC is the only ecosystem of its kind in the region that unlocks sustained engagement, deeper fan connections and long-term growth for our partners across Southeast Asia and its local markets, all year round, at a value that is unachievable elsewhere.

Unlocking ASEAN’s Commercial Potential

At the centre of this growth story is SPORTFIVE, the exclusive commercial partner of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), responsible for shaping and scaling the tournament’s commercial ecosystem.

Through its long-term partnership approach, SPORTFIVE has not only elevated the ASEAN Championship, but also built ASEAN United FC, a unified platform encompassing the AFF’s four flagship competitions:

  • ASEAN Hyundai Cup™

  • ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup™

  • ASEAN Women’s MSIG Cup™

  • ASEAN U-23 Championship™

Together, these events have a cumulative viewership of nearly a billion. Collectively, they create a year-round football ecosystem that delivers consistent engagement, commercial value and unique content and storytelling opportunities for global and regional brands targeting ASEAN for growth.

A Strategic Partnership With Purpose

The introduction of Hyundai Motor Company as Title Partners in 2025 marks a new chapter for the competition, reinforcing both the tournament’s commercial strength and its strategic importance as a regional platform.

For Hyundai, sports partnerships have evolved far beyond visibility. What began as a focus on global awareness through partnerships like FIFA and UEFA has developed into a sophisticated communications platform, one that connects brand purpose, innovation and audience engagement.

Today, Hyundai leverages sport to:

  • Strengthen emotional connections with consumers

  • Communicate its vision for the future of mobility

  • Reinforce its “Progress for Humanity” philosophy

Its involvement in the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026, alongside its roles as Official Mobility Partner and Official Robotics Partner of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ demonstrates a seamless integration of global with regional and domestic market strategy.

What makes the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ truly unique is its ability to bring people together across borders, cultures and communities. Together with partners like Hyundai and the AFF, we are not only growing the commercial potential of the game but also creating a platform that drives real social impact across the region through the unifying power of football and its top event.

One of the World’s Most Dynamic Sports Markets

The significance of this partnership is amplified by ASEAN’s unique market dynamics. Home to one of the world’s youngest, fastest-growing and most digitally connected populations, the region represents a key battleground for global brands.

Football, in particular, remains the most powerful cultural connector, offering unmatched scale and emotional resonance.

Increasingly, regional and global companies alike are recognising this opportunity. Eight Official Partners of the ASEAN United FC events including Shopee, MSIG, Yanmar, Daikin, Acecook, Vietjet and Vikki Digital Bank are Asian companies, underlining the growing strength of regional corporate investment in sport.

Within this landscape, the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ serves as a gateway that offers brands:

  • Direct access to a captive audience of hundreds of millions of passionate fans

  • A culturally relevant platform for storytelling

  • Continuous engagement through a multi-competition ecosystem

Beyond Commercial Value: Driving Social Impact

While commercial success remains critical, the impact of the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026 extends further.

Through initiatives embedded within the wider ASEAN United FC framework, the tournament contributes to:

  • The growth of the women’s game in the region

  • Greater access to football-related opportunities

  • Community-driven programmes that strengthen social and regional cohesion

Hyundai’s regional campaign, “Driving ASEAN as One”, reflects this ambition, using football as a unifying force to connect cultures, foster inclusivity and promote collective progress.

In a year defined by global football’s biggest stage, the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026 reinforces an important truth: the future of sport lies in the power of regional platforms that deliver both scale and authenticity.

For SPORTFIVE, the tournament exemplifies a clear philosophy that builds long-term partnerships that unlock growth and value for rightsholders, brands and fans alike.

From record-breaking audiences to strategic collaborations with global leaders such as Hyundai, the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ is not just a tournament. It is a living example of how sport can transcend boundaries, connect communities and drive meaningful business impact.
